I need some help here:
Do you like the Psalms?
What is your favorite Psalm, and why?

I want to honor God with my life. I'm tired of attempting to be just a good citizen or a good man. I want to be a sold-out-disciple of Jesus.
Hey Josh. I like some Psalms more than others. One of my favorites is the 19th Psalm, where David speaks of the evidence of God's existance, His law, and His shelter. Does it sound as though I preached from that passage recently?
ReplyDeleteI love Psalm139. I have long loved it, but when I heard Michael W. Smith quote it during a concert a few years ago, it became so real to me. The intimacy discussed in that psalm is what I long for.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite Psalms are 1, 91, 112, and another one that I found today, Psalm 90:17. Psalm 1 is a favorite because it esteems and paints a picture of the kind of mate I'm seeking and of godly, wise, and righteous disciples. Psalm 91 because I've always loved this picture of God's complete protection and provision, Psalm 112 because it is another depiction of the man of high favor, and Psalm 90:17 because I adore the fact that I can display the beauty of the Lord and that I earnestly desire to have that said of me at the end of my earthly journey, Lord willing!!
ReplyDeleteJohn,
ReplyDeleteI hope the Psalms series you did went well.
Dad,
Psalm 139 is a classic.
Lauren,
May God grant you the desires of your heart.
My favorite is Psalm 33. Last year I did a Beth Moore study and we did the Psalms of Ascent and the Lord revealed things I had never known before and I learned to appreciate my Jesus even more because of how He was the incarnation of many of the Psalms.
ReplyDeleteI'm a Psalm 63-kind-of-girl. I have quoted this Psalm first thing in the morning for years. It is so my heartcry! Such words of desperately seeking Him. "Because Your love is better than life...; I will praise You as long as I live...; My soul clings to You; Your right hand upholds me."
ReplyDeleteHey Josh - recently had a Methodist friend lead a devo in which he read Ps. 84 (Better is one day in your courts...) and then told about the sons of Kora (Num. 16) who actually wrote that Psalms (they actually wrote a lot of them). How their Levite ancestors rebelled against God and the current generation was still paying the penalty of having to serve as priests but not allowed in the Temple. Made the words of that Psalm take on a whole new meaning. How come I never heard that story from my Bible teachers?
ReplyDeleteThere are several that speak to me but none more than Psalm 23. To be reminded daily that the Lord is my shepherd and I will want nothing because of him is strengthing when I choose to live it.
ReplyDeleteI like Psalm 100. I used to read it to prepare myself for worship on Sunday mornings.

My favorite is Psalm 40:1-2. He has definitely lifted me out of the pit (many times!).
ReplyDeleteMy favorite (for now...) would have to be Psalm 62.
ReplyDeleteI've been steeped in many trust Psalms lately and never knew what I was missing!
